A team of students from the University of the Philippines Diliman Department of Mechanical Engineering (UPD DME) emerged as champions of the Intercollegiate Schools Friendly Competition held on March 12, 2026, as part of Engineers Week (E-Week) 2026, organized by Fluor Daniel Inc. Philippines.
The competition brought together engineering students from different universities to participate in activities that tested their technical knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills. As part of the event, participants took on engineering challenges that required them to develop solutions using fundamental engineering principles.
One of the featured activities was the BayaniJuan Challenge, in which participating teams designed and built a device capable of transporting a miniature house between two designated locations. The challenge provided an opportunity for students to apply engineering concepts to a practical design problem while working collaboratively under competition conditions.
Representing UP Diliman were four students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering:
- Paris Miguel U. Bereber
- Vivienne Marie P. Ducos
- Jamie F. Munar
- Joshua Steven G. Narag
The team was guided by Asst. Prof. Hannah Erika D. Macaspac and Engr. Jose Ygnacio Jesus A. Macaspac V, who served as coaches throughout the competition.
The championship recognizes the students’ achievement in an intercollegiate setting where engineering knowledge and practical application are brought together. Their participation also provided an opportunity to engage with fellow engineering students and demonstrate the skills developed through their academic training.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering congratulates the four student champions and their coaches on this accomplishment. Their achievement adds to the Department’s record of student participation and recognition in engineering competitions.
