Three students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME), University of the Philippines Diliman, were part of Team Iskan, which received the Most Professional Award at the Philippines’ first-ever Can Satellite and Rocket Competition, held from July 17 to 21, 2025 in Cebu City. The event was organized by Indiana Aerospace University and gathered university teams from across the country to compete in space and satellite-themed challenges.
The DME students — Marylen De la Cruz, Riana Gabrielle Gamboa, and Trisha Marie Lucido — collaborated with fellow team members from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI): Jason Dagami, Nico Quimsing, Jonathan Paul Rabang, and Rhyne Chester Torio.

The Most Professional Award is a special distinction given to the team with the highest score in the Professional Competencies category. This includes criteria such as collaboration, adaptability, communication, and technical reporting — key soft skills essential in multidisciplinary engineering projects.
The team was mentored by Dr. Jon Dewitt Dalisay of DME, with Mr. Roider Pugal serving as co-adviser.
Their recognition highlights the department’s commitment to cultivating not just technical excellence but also professionalism and collaboration among its students. The DME congratulates its student representatives for their outstanding performance and contribution to this pioneering aerospace competition.
