At the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME), University of the Philippines Diliman, we are committed to supporting students not only academically but also personally and professionally. Our student support systems are designed to help you navigate your educational journey, address challenges, and thrive in your studies and beyond.
Academic Advising
Every DME student is assigned a faculty program adviser from the first year until graduation. Faculty advisers guide students in:
– Planning course loads and semester enrollment
– Navigating prerequisites, waivers, and curriculum requirements
– Monitoring academic progress and retention
– Preparing for research, capstone projects, and professional growth
This mentorship ensures that students align their academic choices with the Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) and Student Outcomes (SOs) of the BSME program.
Student Affairs Committee
The Student Affairs Committee addresses student concerns and promotes student welfare through:
– Facilitating access to support services, including counseling and wellness programs
– Developing policies that enhance the student experience
– Acting as a bridge between students and faculty for academic or personal concerns
Peer Mentoring and Academic Support
Peer mentoring programs are offered through DME-recognized student organizations. These programs provide:
– Academic guidance and tutoring for challenging courses
– Tips for effective study habits and exam preparation
– Opportunities to connect with upperclassmen and build a supportive network
Participation strengthens collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills among students.
Counseling and Wellness
The Office of Counseling and Guidance (OCG) provides free, confidential mental health and wellness services, including:
– Professional counseling for personal, academic, or career concerns
– Psychosocial support and guidance
– Stress management and wellness programs
