Faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME), University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) showcased their research at the 28th Conference on Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction (PRES’25), held on 24–27 August 2025 in Port Dickson, Malaysia. PRES is a leading international forum that gathers researchers, academics, and industry experts to exchange knowledge on sustainable energy, process integration, and environmental protection.
Three UPD DME faculty members presented papers highlighting Filipino contributions to global efforts in sustainability and innovation:

- Job Immanuel Encarnacion, Ph.D. presented “Evaluation of the Carbon Emissions of Electric Vehicles in the Philippines Using Representative Drive Cycles and Local Power Mix” (with M.A. Mozo, V. Banaguas, and C.M. Odulio).

- Mikash Lumbera presented “Design Optimization of Small-Scale Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbines Using Genetic Algorithms to Minimize CO₂ Emissions” (with J.I. Encarnacion).

- Julius Rhoan T. Lustro, Ph.D. presented “CFD Analysis of CO₂ Dispersion in Air-Conditioned Office Spaces with Varying Occupancy Configurations” (with R.P. Estaquio, N.D. Genuino, L.C. Manuel, K. Santos, N. Astrologo, S.M. Montecillo, and J.R. Hizon).
Their studies reflect the department’s commitment to advancing sustainable technologies, from cleaner transportation and renewable energy systems to healthier indoor environments.
The UPD DME congratulates its faculty members and their collaborators for representing the University and the Philippines on the global stage and for contributing valuable insights toward energy efficiency, pollution reduction, and sustainable development.
