DME Holds Hybrid Orientation for Incoming Mechanical Engineering Majors


The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of the Philippines Diliman officially welcomed 81 incoming Mechanical Engineering students through a hybrid orientation held on July 7, 2025, at the VLC Auditorium of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) and via Zoom.

The orientation provided students with a helpful introduction to the department’s academic program, support structures, and student organizations. It opened with a warm welcome from Department Chair Dr. John Carlo Garcia, who encouraged the newest members of the DME community to take on the challenges ahead with courage and collaboration. The event was hosted by Kat Falqueza, while Ernest Balbin, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, guided students through the curriculum and program expectations.

Participants—on-site and online—were introduced to the department’s vision, core academic units, and available student support services. They also got to meet representatives from the student organizations, learn about the registration process, and gain insight into how to thrive in UP’s academic environment. A short break and socialization period offered on-site attendees time to connect with peers and faculty members.

The event ended with a pre-advising session, during which faculty advisers helped students begin their academic planning. The department emphasized its ongoing commitment to supporting students throughout their academic journey.
