facilities

The Department of Mechanical Engineering provides a range of facilities dedicated to supporting the learning, collaboration, and hands-on training of our students. These include classrooms, fabrication shops, student spaces, and computing resources.

Some facilities, such as classrooms in Melchor Hall, are shared with the College of Engineering, while others are department-managed.

IE-ME Building

Shared with the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, the IE-ME Building houses some of our classrooms and laboratory spaces. It also houses the Department’s fabrication shops and instructional spaces for hands-on learning.

Melchor Hall

The main building of the College of Engineering, Melchor Hall is home to lecture rooms, common academic facilities, and administrative offices. Many general engineering courses are held here, making it a central hub for students in the College.

Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Laboratory

This laboratory features a four-station computer-integrated manufacturing setup, allowing students to explore manufacturing systems, quality control, optimization, and automation. It also supports design work using small-scale CNC machines and robotic arms.

Computer Laboratory

Originally in the ME Laboratories Building, the Computer Laboratory is now in IE-ME 202. With 20 high-performance workstations, it supports instruction in CAD, engineering simulations, and programming.

Woodworking Shop

The Woodworking Shop provides a hands-on environment where ME students apply engineering theory to carpentry and complex joinery. Equipped with professional machinery and hand tools, students learn workshop safety, problem-solving, and craftsmanship under expert guidance.

Metalworking Shop

A professional machining lab where students transform engineering designs into precise components using lathes, milling machines, and industrial manufacturing techniques.

Foundry and Welding Shop

A hands-on lab where students practice metal fabrication, sheet metal work, and welding techniques, supporting courses, design projects, and prototype development.

ME Laboratories Building

The Department’s main building, home to faculty office and research laboratories, supporting advanced instruction and faculty-led research projects.

Faculty Office

Due to ongoing asbestos abatement and reroofing in the ME Laboratories Building, administrative operations and faculty offices have been temporarily moved to the Maynilad Room, 3rd Floor, Melchor Hall.

Fluor Research and Collaboration Room

A dedicated workspace for senior undergraduate and graduate students, this room is designed to support capstone research and design, and research collaboration.

ME Space

ME Space, located on the ground floor of the ME Building, is a collaborative study area for mechanical engineering students. It provides open seating for group discussions, project work, and peer learning, fostering an environment for teamwork and academic engagement.

Aside from these department-managed facilities, the Department of Mechanical Engineering also has specialized research laboratories that support student learning, capstone projects, and faculty-led research.

DME students, faculty, and staff also have access to shared facilities provided by the College of Engineering and the University of the Philippines Diliman, including classrooms, libraries, student activity centers, and other campus-wide resources.
